HorseLight's Therapeutic Barn Lights for Horses
HorseLight is an advanced therapeutic barn lighting system designed specifically for horses. Unlike standard barn lights or stall lights, HorseLight delivers scientifically optimized light spectrums that help support the horse’s natural Circadian Rhythm, recovery, performance, breeding, and overall wellbeing.
More Than Just Standard LED Barn Lights
Traditional barn lighting often lacks the intensity and spectrum needed to properly regulate melatonin production in horses. HorseLight therapeutic stall lights are engineered to mimic natural summer daylight using targeted blue light wavelengths proven to influence circadian function.
This helps support:
- Improved sleep and recovery
- Enhanced daytime alertness
- Coat management and seasonal shedding
- Reduced stable stress and vices
- Overall biological performance
HorseLight For Performance Horses
Performance horses often spend long hours indoors due to training schedules, travel, weather, or recovery. HorseLight therapeutic stall lights help create a healthier stable environment designed to support equine athletes year-round.
Benefits for performance horses include:
- Improved recovery and rest cycles
- Better feed conversion and muscle condition
- Support for Vitamin D and calcium absorption
- Extended maintenance of summer coats
- Earlier seasonal shedding
- Reduced stress-related stable behaviors
HorseLight For Breeding
HorseLight systems are widely used in breeding barns to help support reproductive management through controlled light therapy.
As horses are naturally “long-day breeders,” extending perceived daylight can help stimulate earlier reproductive activity.
Benefits for breeding facilities include:
- Earlier cycling in mares
- More consistent ovulation patterns
- Earlier reproductive readiness in stallions
- Support for embryo transfer programs
- Earlier foal production
- Red lighting for foaling checks without disrupting melatonin production
Coat Health & Seasonal Coat Management
Research shows that coat growth in horses is primarily controlled by photoperiod or day length. As daylight hours shorten, melatonin production increases, signaling the body to grow a winter coat, while longer daylight hours encourage shedding.
HorseLight can be programmed to either follow natural daylight hours to support normal seasonal coat development or extend daylight exposure commonly up to 16 hours per day for performance and breeding programs aimed at delaying winter coat growth, encouraging earlier shedding, and supporting earlier reproductive cycling.
A Texas A&M University study titled Controlling Hair Length in Horses Using Extended Day Length Regimes demonstrated that horses exposed to extended daylight developed significantly reduced winter coat growth compared to horses maintained under natural daylight conditions.
HorseLight also includes optional low-intensity red nighttime lighting, which research has shown does not significantly disrupt melatonin production or seasonal rhythms.
